Australia needs stronger and more diverse pollination systems.
Varroa destructor is now established in Australia. This creates an ongoing risk for European honeybees and the industries that rely on managed pollination.
The Nomia Bee Program is developing an evidence-led way for Australian farmers to support native ground-nesting bees and strengthen on-farm pollination resilience.
The program will not replace managed honeybees. It does not guarantee higher crop yields. Instead, it aims to add another layer of pollination capacity and reduce long-term reliance on a single pollination system.

We are seeking expressions of interest from Australian farmers and growers.
Suitable farms may help Nomia develop, test and monitor:
Native bee nesting habitat
Suitable areas may be assessed for practical native ground-nesting bee habitat.
Year-round flowering resources
Flowering resources may be planned to provide more reliable seasonal forage.
Habitat protection methods
Nomia aims to develop practical methods that can work within real farming operations.
Pollination and crop data
Monitoring may help build reliable evidence about habitat, pollinator activity and crop performance.
Registration is free. It does not create any obligation to participate.
What participation may involve
Selected participants may be asked to:
- Provide three to five years of completed crop-yield data, where available.
- Identify suitable areas for nesting and flowering habitat.
- Protect agreed habitat from soil disturbance and compaction.
- Manage chemical exposure around agreed habitat areas.
- Allow approved monitoring and data collection.
The required land area will depend on the crop, farm, location and research design. Nomia will explain all requirements before a farmer agrees to participate.
What happens next?
Nomia will review each expression of interest.
Farm selection will depend on:
- Crop type.
- Location.
- Habitat suitability.
- Available farm data.
- Program capacity.
- Funding.
- Scientific and operational requirements.
Submitting the form does not guarantee selection. It also does not require you to proceed.

Any proposed costs, responsibilities or available support will be explained before participation begins. No farmer will be committed without a separate written agreement.

Nomia will keep identifiable farm information confidential and will not publish individual farm details.
Nomia may use de-identified or aggregated information for research, program development and agricultural resilience planning. It may also share this information with relevant Australian Government agencies and regulators.
